For the past several days since the storms that devastated much of Northeast Alabama and Northwest Georgia there has been a persistant rumor about two children who were unidentified at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. The rumor has spread via social networks and tweets and the internet over the past several days.
The DeKalb County Alabama Sheriff’s Department issued a press release Sunday afternoon dispelling the myth:
Please be advised that we have confirmed with Erlanger that there are no children (or any age victims for that matter) unidentified or lost, separated from family, etc. While these children have LOST family members in the sense that some of their family died in the tornado, they are not LOST, ALONE, UNIDENTIFIED or OTHERWISE UNACCOUNTED FOR at Erlanger. They are at the hospital and have family members there with them. Any facebook, text, or email messages to the contrary are inaccurate or were begun due to a misunderstanding.
Thanks,
Stanna Guice
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office
