The Georgia State Patrol released a report on the fatal crash on Highway 27 in the Gore area that took the life two people.
On Friday, September 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm, Troopers from Post 38 Rome responded to a two-vehicle crash on GA 1 (Highway 27) at Scott Hill Road, in Chattooga County. The driver of a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, traveling south on GA 1, lost control of the vehicle and traveled onto the grass median. The Jeep Wrangler reentered the northbound lanes of GA 1, where it struck a 2016 Hyundai Sante Fe, which was traveling north on GA 1. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased on scene, and the driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
WZQZ News has confirmed that the driver of the Hyundai was Lori McWhorter, a teacher in the Walker County School System. See related article from WZQZ
