Today, Georgia’s only native son to be elected to the Presidency turns 99-years-old. President Jimmy Carter is the oldest former President in the history of our nation. The Plains, Georgia native still lives in his hometown with his wife of 77-years, Rosalynn Carter.

The former President has been a lot of different things in his life. Farmer, peanut warehouse operator, Baptist deacon and Sunday School teacher, U.S. Naval officer, state senator Governor of Georgia and President of the United States. But, being a husband to Rosalyn has undoubtedly been his favorite roll. The former President credits his 77-year marriage to his childhood= sweetheart as his greatest accomplishment.

President and Mrs. Carter have always been a team. From the governor’s mansion to the White House and the founding of the Carter Center in Atlanta, the two have always worked side-by-side. In fact, Mrs. Carter was the first, First Lady to sit in on cabinet meetings while in the White House.
Today, President Carter is on hospice, but by all accounts is doing quite well. His family says that he enjoys eating peanut butter ice cream regularly and cheering for his beloved Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Carter has dementia, but still recognizes family.

On this October 1, 2023, all of us at WZQZ Radio, and in fact all of Georgia, wish President Carter a happy 99th Birthday.
