Chattooga County residents have flooded donation centers over the past week with needed relief items for victims of last week’s tornadoes in Dade, Walker, Catoosa and DeKalb Counties. The Summerville Branch of the Chattooga County Library has served as the central hub for sorting the goods and preparing them for shipment to the affected areas.
Sylvia Lee Cordle Keziah with Chattooga Family Connection told AM 1180 that today, Friday, would be the last day that donations would be accepted at the library because of the large number of volunteers it takes to coordinate the distribution of the goods. Residents are urged to bring any items to the Library today for shipment to the affected areas.
Next week you will still be able to make monetary donations for storm victims. Those donations can be made to Chattooga Family Connection and you can drop off your donations at the county commissioner’s office or you can drop your checks off at the AM 1180 studios on Commerce Street in Summerville. The money will then be used to buy specific supplies being requested by community leaders in the affected areas of Dade and Catoosa Counties in Georgia and DeKalb County in Alabama. Also, several area churches continue to accept donations of goods for shipment to those in need.
