The Region Champion Trion Bulldogs will be taking on St. Francis this Friday evening at Sam R. McCain Stadium.  WZQZ’s Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke will be broadcasting the game on 99.1 FM with the pregame show starting at 7 PM and kickoff at 7:30 PM.  Unfortunately, due to GHSA rules, WZQZ has not been given access to bring the public a live video stream of the event.

WZQZ management spoke with the GHSA this week, requesting permission to do a live Facebook feed of the game.  During the regular season, high schools in Georgia hold the broadcast rights for their games, but during postseason, those rights belong to the GHSA.  The GHSA told WZQZ, “As for video, the NFHS Network says Trion is streaming the game on the (NFHS owned) Pixellot camera, which means nobody else may stream it”.

WZQZ regrets that a statewide organization with no local ties to Chattooga County, Trion or our community, will prevent local media from bringing video of this important and historic game to our listening audience.  The GHSA has once again shown that they are an organization that does not have small, rural communities at heart when it comes to their decision making.

The game will be live-streamed, without commentary on the subscription-based NFHS Network’s website.  WZQZ recommends that if Trion fans choose to pay the fee to see the game, you tune into 99.1 FM to hear Ben and Jeremy’s play-by-play.   WZQZ will record the video of the game and play it back as soon as possible after the game has finished to comply with GHSA mandates. WZQZ will post a link for the audio feed of our Facebook page on Friday evening.

WZQZ is proud to bring local high school football to our community.  For over fifteen years, we have through the help of our many sponsors, brought local sports FREE OF CHARGE to the public.

The GHSA does not share that commitment to our community.
