The Chattooga County Young Farmers hosted the 6th Annual Pig Project Show and Auction on Monday, November 6th at the Chattooga Ag Center. Nine students exhibited 18 pigs at the show.

The following students exhibited pigs in the show:

Lane Bridges, Cody Corbin, Lillie Dooley, Jonas Hardy, Callen Kerce, Benson Turner, Tate Whitlock, Tucker Whitlock and Joshua Willingham.

Showmanship winners were Benson Turner, Callen Kerce, Lane Bridges, and Joshua Willingham. Showmanship winners received buckles sponsored by the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.

Grand Champion Barrow was exhibited by Joshua Willingham and Reserve Champion Barrow was exhibited by Lillie Dooley. Grand Champion Gilt was exhibited by Lillie Dooley and Reserve Champion Gilt was exhibited by Lane Bridges.

Show sponsors were Chattooga County Young Farmers, Chattooga County Agricultural Fair, White’s Tire and Alignment, Jefferson’s Deck the Hall Decorating and Event Planing, Golden Package, Harvey’s Southend Auto, Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply Chattooga Truck and Tire, Farm Credit, Diamond K, Dog Trot Farms, The Willow Tree Grill, Willingham Construction, Whitlock Farms, Ruff Creek Farms, Evan’s Welding, Commissioner Blake Elsberry, Farm Credit and Southern Living Farm and Garden.

The Summerville Veterinary Clinic donated services for the project.

Nine pigs were auctioned off at the conclusion of the show and delivered to the processors for the buyers. The proceeds from the auction will go directly to the students. The pigs averaged $1.56 per pound.

According to Chattooga County Young Farmer Advisor, Lauren Jarrett, “The pig project is an excellent opportunity for students to raise an animal and show on a local level. The support from sponsors and buyers shows the support our community has for youth involved in FFA and 4-H activities”
