The Walking the Last Mile Reentry Program is a partnership between the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Georgia Department of Labor.  The program will assist those leaving the prison system to write resumes, do mock interviews and provide connections with potential employers.  Recidivism rates are high in Georgia, and part of that is the lack of opportunity for ex-prisoners in the workforce.

The initiative is getting support from various business organizations, including the Georgia Association of Manufacturers and the Associated General Contractors of Georgia. The program will work in tandem with the state’s Work Opportunity Tax Credit program, which offers businesses tax credits for hiring qualified people who face barriers to employment.

The program will launch, starting in Atlanta, next month.
