Funeral and celebration services will take place across Georgia next week for Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady who died Sunday at the age of 96.  Mrs. Carter, like her husband and former President Jimmy Carter, were lifelong residents of Plains, Georgia in Sumter County.  Funeral arrangements start next Monday in Americus, where the former First Lady of Georgia and the United States will be in repose at her alma mater, Georgia Southwestern State University.  From there, the body of Mrs. Carter will be taken to the Carter Center in Atlanta.   The public will be able to pay their respects from 6 PM – 10 PM in the lobby of the Carter Center.  Then on Tuesday at 1 PM, a service will be held at Emory University in Atlanta.  On Wednesday, Mrs. Carter’s remains will return to Plains where a private service will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church – where she and President Carter have been members since 1981.  Mrs. Carter’s final resting place will be at the home she and President Carter built together in Plains.
