A Cherokee County, Alabama jury has found a Rome, Georgia man guilty of murder.  The jury returned the verdict against Desmond Brown on Tuesday afternoon.  Brown was found guilty of capital murder for the killing of half-sisters Truveniea Campbell and Vanita Richardson in Alabama and dumping their bodies near a bridge on the Etowah River in Floyd County. 

Vanita Richardson was just 19-years-old at the time of her murder and was an Armuchee High School Student.  Brown is accused of killing Richardson and her half-sister Truvenia Campbell, age 31, in Alabama in a dispute over an allegedly stolen wallet.

Georgia DOT crews found the bodies of the two sisters with bags tied over their heads while they were inspecting a bridge over the river.

The jury only took a short time to deliberate before returning the verdict. The trial will now move into the sentencing phase where jurors will listen to additional testimony before imposing a sentence.  Brown could be facing the death penalty.
