If you filled your tank before Wednesday of this week, you were paying at least 30-cents per gallon less for gasoline than you would if you went and filled up today.  Some people were wondering why the sudden jump in prices happened.  On Wednesday night at 11:59 PM – the tax suspension on motor fuel in Georgia ended.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has extended that gas tax suspension several times over the past two years.  The most recent times, the governor has said he was doing it to help Georgia residents out with inflation – which he blames on Democrats in Washington.

On Monday of this week, gas in Chattooga County was some of the cheapest in the state – averaging $2.50 per gallon.  On Friday, those prices had jumped to $2.80 per gallon on average.

Governor Kemp is talking with state leaders about the possibility of doing another gas tax suspension after the first of the year.  The gas tax suspension have cost the state about $1.7 billion in lost revenue.
