Last week a federal lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Rome against Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett and Investigator Kandy Dodd.  The suit says that the Sheriff and Investigator used an improperly obtained warrant to search the home of a Summerville couple.

AM 1180 spoke with Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters about the cost to the county associated with the lawsuit.  Winters told Chattooga County Radio that at this point there is no way to know exactly how much the lawsuit would end up costing the county.

Winters said that the county’s insurer ACCG is providing coverage in the case.  However, the county will still have to pay for the county attorney’s involvement in the case and the deductible for the insurance policy which is $5,000.00.

AM 1180 asked the commissioner if the matter would lead to increased premiums in the future for the county.  Commissioner Winters said "There is no way to know if this claim will result in increased premiums at next renewal.  It can’t help though."
