A Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame member and familiar meteorologist to thousands of Georgia residents, John Weatherbee, passed away on Wednesday night.

“Big” John Weatherbee worked as a radio and television meteorologist in markets all across the South.  He was chief meteorologist at CBS Television stations in Atlanta and Savannah and had also worked as a meteorologist in Chattanooga and Nashville.  He also did weather on the radio for markets in Ohio, California, Oregon, Illinois and Indiana.

Weatherbee was serving as staff meteorologist for the Georgia News (Radio) Network at the time of his death.

The Georgia News Network said on Thursday, “John was a valuable member of the GNN family and will be missed greatly. We’ve lost a great weatherman and more importantly…a friend”.
