A thirty-two-year-old Summerville woman was arrested after a traffic stop on Tuesday of this week.  According to a report from police, officers noticed a pickup truck driving erratically on Martin Street while they were working a separate incident in the area.

Officers followed the pickup truck and performed a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Tonya Michelle Caldwell.  The driver had a small child with her at the time and was bleeding from the mouth.  At first, the woman told officers that her husband had hit her, but officers later learned that Caldwell had hit her mouth on the steering wheel of the truck.  Officers said the woman was distraught because she thought her husband was leaving her.  The officers had just arrested her husband and had him in a patrol car.

While talking with Caldwell, officers noticed her drop a dollar bill.  When an officer retrieved the money, he noticed a white residue on the bill that subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine.

Tonya Caldwell was arrested for reckless driving and Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act for possession of methamphetamine.
