Vanity tags, or personalized license plates, are popular in Georgia; but sometimes those who attempt to get a personalized tag have their ideas rejected.

Most license plates are automatically generated. Some are created by their owners to make a joke or as a personal vanity. But sometimes those attempts to elicit a reaction are rejected. According to documents provided by Georgia Department of Revenue spokesperson Kristen Bartholomew to the Augusta Chronicle, more than 800 specialty tags were denied throughout the Georgia in 2023.

The state has a list of requirements of the specialty plates it approves. Tags are not allowed to include inappropriate language, unauthorized copyrights, discriminatory language, or language that implies illegal acts.

If you are curious about a specific license plate, you can check availability on the DOR website.
