Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shavers says that a man is dead after an argument in the Watsons Crossroads area on Highway 47 near Gaylesville that happened on Tuesday of this week.
Sheriff Shaver says that the argument was between two brothers inside a vehicle. The investigation into the incident is continuing, but preliminary reports indicated that the two brothers were arguing when the passenger, identified as forty-seven-year-old Billy Mitchell of Gaylesville, attacked his brother who was driving.
The brother, who was driving, reportedly shot and killed Mitchell.
No charges have been filed. Sheriff Shaver said the investigation is ongoing and the case will later be presented to a Cherokee County grand jury. The JSU Center For Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University, the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the probe.
