Georgia School Supt. Richard Woods has issued a statement in response to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s plan to provide bonuses to teachers and invest more state money in school transportation and school safety.

Woods said, “Governor Kemp’s FY25 budget proposal includes raises for Georgia’s hardworking teachers, $205 million for school transportation, and $104 million to ensure school safety. It also includes funding for a tiered, statewide literacy coaching model – which has the support of former Mississippi Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright, who led her state to the ‘Mississippi Miracle’ for early literacy. This is a pro-education budget and I am extremely grateful to the Governor for these proposed investments in Georgia’s 1.7 million K-12 students and their futures.”

Kemp outlined his proposals for the education budget in his State of the State address at the Gold Dome in Atlanta on Thursday of last week.
