Retired Georgia State Patrol Troop Commander Don Stultz Jr. announced he is running for Sheriff of neighboring Walker County.  Stultz, a native of LaFayette, will be facing off against longtime incumbent Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.

Stultz served as troop commander for Troop A in North Georgia and was responsible for fourteen Northwestern Georgia counties, including Walker and Chattooga Counties.  He retired from the Georgia State Patrol in 2020.

Stultz, his wife Maggie, a 31-year educator and principal of LaFayette High School, and their six-month-old Chocolate Lab, Willow, reside in LaFayette.

A press release about Stultz’ candidacy stated, “Since Mr. Stultz announced his intention to become the next Sheriff of Walker County, he has made it a priority to get out and meet the voters of Walker County, attending over 50 community events since September”.
