Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry held a public meeting on Friday of last week to introduce three separate pieces of legislation.  The commissioner spoke about the new land ordinance that has been renamed and has had some changes made to it.

It will be replacing the controversial 2022 Land Use Ordinance and the commissioner says that the purpose of the ordinance is “to set standards for subdivision developments and commercial properties”.  He also says that the ordinance “does not impact homes, farms or inherited property, and is not intended to place an undue burden on developers”.  Critics disagree and say that the new ordinance is just new packaging for the same intent in an election year.

Elsberry’s challenger Andy Allen says that he will repeal any land development ordinance if he is elected.

Elsberry also talked about an ordinance that will establish a motel/hotel tax and an agreement with United Community Bank and the county’s water department regarding automated check deposits.
