The bid will be awarded for the Cloudland portion of the Chattooga County Water Expansion Project – Phase II, according to Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters.  Bids on the other areas of the water expansion project were awarded at the water board meeting last week.  However, the low bidder on the Cloudland project was given until Friday (yesterday) at 5 PM to come up with the proper bonding.

The contract will go to C&S Construction of Adairsville.  C&S is a water and sewer system construction company that had done a lot of work for the City of Calhoun and other projects in Northwest Georgia.

The bid by C&S Construction was considerably lower than the next closest bidder – by around $700,000 less.  C&S told AM 1180 that they could do the project for less money because they have a blasting and drilling crew and will not have to contract that portion of the work to a subcontractor.

Plans to extend water lines at Cloudland are needed according to residents on the mountain.  With the dry weather many Cloudland residents are concerned about water availability from wells and water quality during dry weather.
