Lester Rogers Champion, 39, of Fort Payne, was arrested earlier this week in the 4500 block of Woodrow Bean Drive in northeast El Paso. He is charged with second-degree theft of property.

Investigators believe Champion fled to the El Paso area after he became a suspect in a series of thefts in DeKalb. Authorities said Champion was arrested after "extensive surveillance" of areas Champion is known to frequent in El Paso.

He was being held in El Paso last week waiting extradition back to DeKalb County.
