A thirty-one-year-old man led a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy on a high-speed chase in the Gore area on Sunday.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the deputy clocked Jason Barrett doing 87 mph in a 65 mph speed zone.  When the deputy activated his blue lights, the driver sped up and the deputy gave pursuit, reaching speeds of 110 mph before the driver stopped.

The report indicated the chase lasted about two miles, coming to an end near the intersection of Gore-Subligna Road and Highway 27.  The deputy pulled his service weapon and ordered the driver out of the vehicle.  After five or six times yelling at the driver, Barrett finally exited the vehicle.  While cuffing the suspect, the deputy saw marijuana on the console of the vehicle. Barrett admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier.

Barrett was charged with DUI for multiple substances, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding and following too closely and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
