Berry College will host a variety of musical performances featuring Berry students and faculty in February. All events are free and open to the public.
Vocal Honors Recital: Berry College’s top vocalists will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Bell Recital Hall at the Ford Complex.
The annual Vocal Honors Recital showcases hand-selected students from the Berry Music Program. The students will perform spirituals and art songs by African American composers in honor of Black History Month.
Wind Ensemble Concert: The Berry College Wind Ensemble presents their winter concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Bell Recital Hall.
Their performance highlight music written by underrepresented composers and feature five pieces written by female or Black composers within the last 11 years. The compositions include “Where Waters Meet”, “Mary Shelley Meets Frankenstein”, “Carnegie Anthem”, “Song for the Strong” and “In Living Color”.
Berry Winds Winter Concert: Berry Winds will perform “Rhapsody in Blue” with faculty soloist, Kris Carlisle, for their winter concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Bell Recital Hall.
Written by the American composer George Gershwin in 1924, “Rhapsody in Blue” combines classical music with jazz and was a significant composition of the Jazz Age.
The Berry Winds will also perform “African Dances” with the Berry College Women’s Choir and a student brass quintet as well as “Traffic Jammin’” with a student brass quintet.
