The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission met on Thursday of last week in Rome. The commission reports $9.82 billion in new investment and expansion with 7,838 new jobs to be created from investments that have already been announced in Northwest Georgia.
Last week, Governor Brian Kemp announced that Solarcycle – a solar panel company – will bring 600 jobs as part of a $344 million investment to Cedartown and Polk County. Another solar company, Qcells is making a $2.5 billion investment in solar panel manufacturing in Bartow County and Dalton.
Qcells is also investing between $4-5 Billion in a electric vehicle battery plant that promises 3,500 jobs in Bartow County.
The regional commission is made up of 15 counties in Northwest Georgia. Chattooga County is represented on the commission by Commissioner Blake Elsberry, Summerville Mayor Harvey and Menlo resident Jim Henry.
