Authorities in neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama believe that remains recovered from Weiss Lake on Friday of last week may be those of an elderly man who has been missing for over a decade.
Fishermen reported what they believed to be a submerged vehicle in the lake last Friday. The vehicle was discovered at Chesnut Bay, located southeast of Yellow Creek, between Jamestown and Leesburg. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered that the vehicle submerged in the lake was registered to Oscar Lewis King, who was reported missing from Cherokee County in late 2013.
King, who was in his early seventies at the time of his disappearance, was a native of Texas. His family reported him missing on December 2, 2013.
The body inside the submerged vehicle was sent to the Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics. Alabama Law Enforcement Marine Patrol assisted the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in recovering the vehicle and the body.
