Drama in the City of Menlo continued this week with town’s water department head and the city’s clerk both resigning this week and a city council member accusing the mayor of trying to have her and other council members “arrested”.

City Clerk Jill Neal announced her last day on Wednesday of this week and Jeff Keen with the water department left employment with the city after the city’s council members refused an offer to keep him on part-time until someone with EPD certification could take over.

Councilmember Patti Settoon says that Mayor Allen Keen tried to have her and other council members “arrested” in January.  Ms. Settoon’s proof of those allegations were from a report from WZQZ News where Chattooga County Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux said that Mayor Keen had approached him about seeking “legal action” against the council.  See related story from WZQZ

Mayor Keen admits to talking with Judge Maddux about taking legal action, but denies that he wanted to have the council members arrested.  WZQZ’s report never mentioned anything about anyone being arrested, and Judge Maddux says no talk about “taking out warrants” against the council members was ever discussed with him.

While the arguing between the council members and mayors continues, the city is facing fines for each day there is not someone with EPD certification at the Menlo Water Department.
