Republican Candidate for coroner Jeremy “Big Mac” McElhaney and incumbent Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux qualify for office at the Chattooga County Courthouse

Qualifying ended today at noon for local offices in Chattooga County.  Several incumbent office holders will not have any opposition in the Republican Primary.  No Democrats qualified for any local offices, making it the first time since the Civil War that there have not been any Democrats on the ballot for local office in Chattooga County.

Probate Judge Gary Woods, Clerk of Courts Kim James, Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton, State Court Solicitor Buddy Hill and Sheriff Mark Schrader will not have any opposition in the Primary or the General Election.

Four Republicans qualified for Chattooga County Coroner: Jeremy “Big Mac” McElhaney, Savanna McGill, Heath Hammond and Carie Blackwell.  Incumbent Democratic Coroner Earl Rainwater chose not to seek reelection.

Two Republican candidates qualified for the Chattooga County Board of Education with no opposition: Chad Dodd and Derek Ekroat.  Incumbent Republican B.J. Montgomery and incumbent Democrat Eddie Elsberry did not qualify for reelection.

There will be a contested race in the Republican Primary for Sole Commissioner.  Incumbent Blake Elsberry will be facing a challenge from Andy Allen.

The Republican Primary Election will be held on May 21, 2024.
