South Georgia Milling and Paving has been awarded the bid for the first round of paving in Chattooga County for 2024.  The paving is part of the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grants (LMIG) awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Roads included on the list for paving are: Silver Hill Road, Old Teloga Crossroads, Harrisburg Road, Railey Road, Lyerly Dam Road, Bethel Church Road and Sling Alley Road.

In all, the bid is for 11.4 miles of paving on county roads.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and the General Assembly have added $250 million in Local Road Assistance Grants (LRA) for local governments paving projects in the 2024 Fiscal Year amended budget that was passed recently.  Applications for those additional funds are being accepted until June 15, 2024.

The Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) program provides funds to local governments to perform improvements to their roadway network each year. The funding source for LMIG is a percentage of the state motor fuel tax. Use of LMIG funds requires adherence to adequate roadway standards, accounting practices, and applicable transportation funds, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
