Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Chattooga County woman last Thursday after they say she was harboring a wanted fugitive at a West Elm Street address.
According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Cynthia Diane Rape was accused of hiding Andrew Norton inside the residence. Deputies say that Rape had helped Norton abscond from his court-ordered rehab and took him to her residence. Deputies went to the residence and Rape denied that Norton was inside, saying that Norton had been there earlier but had left. Another witness on the scene told deputies that Norton was indeed inside the residence.
Deputies found Norton hiding behind a toilet inside the residence and took him into custody. Rape was arrested and charged with obstruction and harboring a wanted felon.
Rape later admitted to deputies that she knew all along that Norton was inside the residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.
