Chattooga County’s unemployment rate dropped by two-tenths of a point from March to April, according to numbers released last Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.  The total number of unemployed workers that filed first-time unemployment claims in April of this year was 303; down from 359 in March.  The unemployment rate for the month of April was at 3.2% compared to 3.4% the previous month.  At the same time last year, unemployment was at 3.8%.   The latest numbers show that there are currently 9,188 Chattooga County residents who are employed.  Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said in a statement last Thursday, “From the state to the local level, Georgia is focused on creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and everyday workers can find good jobs and build better lives.”
