Summerville Police Chief Brian Ozment has been named the new Public Safety Director for the City of Summerville. Ozment, who has served with the Summerville Police Department since 1993, will oversee the operations of both the police and fire departments as public safety director.
Ozment will be in charge of budgeting, purchase requests and other administrative aspects of the Summerville Fire Department, while serving as chief of police for the Summerville Police Department.
Former Police Chief Harold Tucker was appointed public safety director back in October of 2021 and prior to that the job was held by longtime Summerville Police Chief Stan Mosley. The position of public safety director was created in 2012 by the Summerville City Council.
The city’s public safety director works closely with the fire department chief and is primarily involved with the budgeting and administrative side of the fire department.
Brian Ozment attended the Chief Executive Training Course hosted by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Reinhardt University. He resides in Summerville with his wife and family.
