The Walker County Board of Commissioners is developing their fiscal year budget and asked department heads for budget requests for the upcoming fiscal year.  Jenna Stevens, director of the county-owned Mountain Cove Farms asked commissioners for an increase in the venue’s budget.

The resort and venue destination in McLemore Cove consists of thirteen buildings on 285 acres of land.  Former Walker County Sole Commissioner Bebe Heiskell purchased the property in 2008.

In a budget meeting held last week by Walker County Commissioners, Stevens said that resort is in need of repairs and furniture and linens need to be replaced at the venue areas.

Stevens’ request includes:
  • $5,000 toward salaries and wages
  • $12,000 for building repairs
  • $6,800 for fiber optics
  • $5,500 for furniture and linens

The improvements, Stevens said, would greatly increase what Mountain Cove Farms could earn. Recently, she said, the resort took in $287,500 in a three-month period. With repairs and improvements, Stevens said that figure could be $680,500.
