Eddie Shireman, a lifelong resident of Chattooga County and a U.S. Army veteran, was presented a quilt of valor on May 18, 2024 at the Chattooga County Memorial Home.

The Quilts of Valor foundation presents patriotic handmade quilts to service members and veterans who have been touched by war. In October 1967, Specialist Fourth Class Shireman began basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He served in the Vietnam War from March 1968 – March 1969. After returning and remaining stateside for five months, he then served overseas in Germany from September 1969 – September 1970.

Chattooga County Quilts of Valor chapter members Gloria Moseley and Avis Snow presented the quilt to Mr. Shireman, along with his son, Matt Shireman. Family members and close friends were also present for this special occasion. Mr. Shireman acknowledged, “This was a very humbling experience and meant more to me that you will ever know.”
