W.H. Bill Rogers, President of Mount Vernon Mills, issued a statement on Thursday about an ammonia spill at the mill in Trion on Wednesday night:

Last night around 9:15 p.m.an Airgas tanker experienced a leak as they were delivering anhydrous ammonia to Mount Vernon Mills. The emergency safety alarms were triggered and emergency personnel were notified. Emergency protocol was enacted by the Trion Fire Department and in coordination with other emergency personnel; the leak was contained and stopped quickly, resulting in no injuries. Thank you to the Trion, Summerville, Teloga, Gore, Walker and Hayes Fire Departments for your quick response. Thank you to Chattanooga Fire Department Hazmat I, Special Operations Division, Hamilton County Hazmat Team for assisting this situation. We also want to thank the Chattooga County Emergency Management Agency and the Trion Police Department for their assistance. Additionally, thanks to Mount Vernon’s management team for working swiftly and promptly to ensure the safety of our employees. Thank you to the employees and residents for an organized and orderly response.
