A new council member was sworn in at Monday’s Summerville City Council meeting and a local business that has been around for over eighty years in downtown Summerville was recognized.

Simone Adams was sworn in on Monday to fill the unexpired term of former Summerville City Councilman David Ford, who passed away earlier this year.  Adams will be representing seat number one on the council.  The local real estate agent won a runoff election last month after a crowded primary in May.

Also, the city council recognized Marks Auto Sales.  The company was founded in 1940 by Jamie Marks, who also served his country during World War II.  Marks served in the Army Air Corp. with tours of duty in North Africa, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, France and Germany.

The used auto dealership has provided time sales to Chattooga County and the surrounding area for over eight decades and is now run by Marks’ son Paul Marks who, along with his wife, accepted the resolution honoring the business at the council meeting.
