Georgia has been identified as the top state for fraud, according to a recent study by Bader Scott injury lawyers.
The study, based on data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) between April 2023 and March 2024, revealed that Georgia reported more than 177,000 fraud cases. This equates to 1,605 cases per 100,000 residents, a rate 62% higher than the national average.
The most common scams reported include imposter scams, online shopping fraud and business-job opportunity fraud. The rise in fraud cases has prompted authorities to step up efforts to combat these crimes and protect residents. Typically foreign scammers are hard to prosecute because the governments they reside do not cooperate with U.S. authorities.
