A Birmingham, Alabama woman is facing charges in Floyd County, including possession of items prohibited for inmates, use of a communications device to commit a felony, and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Thirty-two-year-old Ikea Shanique Norwood conspired with an inmate over the phone lines at the Floyd County Prison, as well as through emails and video visitations, to smuggle more than 8 ounces of marijuana into the prison.

Norwood left the marijuana, plus cigarettes and rolling papers at the inmate’s assigned work detail location at Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services on North Avenue in Rome.

The incident dates back to April 29, 2021.
