Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger received nomination petitions from independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Cornel West, and Claudia De la Cruz, who are seeking to qualify for the general election ballot for U.S. President. The following number of petition signatures have been verified and accepted, and the petitions will now move to the process of resolving pending challenges before an Administrative Law Judge:
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.: 11,336
Cornel West: 8,075
Claudia De la Cruz: 7,682
Georgia law requires that independent candidates for President submit a nomination petition containing a minimum of 7,500 signatures from eligible Georgia voters. County election officials have been diligently reviewing the petitions to verify the petition signatures.
While all three candidates appear to have the requisite number of signatures, legal challenges to the qualifications of each of the candidates have been filed and are pending before an Administrative Law Judge at the Office of State Administrative Hearings.
Hearings on these challenges are scheduled for August 19 and 22, 2024. Following the hearings, the ALJ will issue a decision on whether the candidates are qualified to appear on the general election ballot.
