While the county government and local school system has no plans to raise property taxes, the Town of Lyerly is planning an increase in property taxes for its property owners.  The Lyerly Town Council has announced a meeting later this month concerning the proposed property tax increase.

Lyerly Town Clerk Sally Kerce told WZQZ News on Friday morning that due to the incorrect information being published, the town will have to reschedule their property tax meetings and they will be as follows:

Tuesday – September 3, 2024 at 11:30 AM and 6:30 PM

Tuesday – September 10, 2024 at 6:30 PM

The Lyerly Town Council is proposing a 2024 millage rate of 6.153 percent.

Citizens are being invited to a public hearing on the matter to be held next Tuesday, August 27th at 6:30 PM at the Lyerly Town Hall.

There will be two more hearings held on the matter on Tuesday, September 3rd – one at 11:30 AM and another at 6:30 PM, when the council will vote on adopting the new millage rate.

The proposed property tax increase would mean a home in Lyerly with a fair market value of $100,000 would see an increase of $23.88 in property taxes.
