The purchase of a lottery ticket at a Circle K gas station in LaFayette confirmed the whereabouts of a vehicle thief and resulted in the arrest of a twenty-nine-year-old Chattooga County man last week.

According to Summerville Police, Jason Vaughn reported to police that someone had stolen his vehicle from Ballard’s Automotive .  The truck was later found parked behind a Dollar General Store in Summerville.  Inside the truck, investigators with the police department found a lottery ticket that had been scratched off.  Summerville Police contacted the Georgia Lottery and were able to confirm that the ticket had been purchased in LaFayette.

Summerville Police went to the gas station in LaFayette and reviewed video surveillance footage and were able to determine that twenty-nine-year-old Justin Clay Carrol had purchased the ticket at the convenience store.

Police located Carrol and arrested him on theft charges.  Carrol told police that he stole the vehicle because he “wanted to go to LaFayette”.  Police were able to retrieve the key fob for the vehicle in Town Creek after Carrol told them that he had tossed the keys into the creek near Willow Springs Park.
