As students return to class today in the Chattooga County School System, there will be extra law enforcement presence.  Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News on Monday evening that he plans to have deputies posted at all five county schools today, in addition to the regularly assigned school resource officers.  The extra law enforcement presence comes after a threat was made by two students last week aimed at Trion High School.

After an investigation by the sheriff’s office, two youths were arrested and charged in connection with social media posts that circulated that indicated a threat towards Trion.  Yesterday, when Trion students returned to school, the Trion Police Department had extra patrols at Trion Schools.  Trion Supt. Dr. Phil Williams says that Trion will continue to operate on a “soft lockdown” for several days due to the threats.

Yesterday, Rome High School and Rome Middle School were placed on lockdown after threats were received and a student at Coosa High School was arrested for terroristic threats.  On Sunday, schools in Cedar Bluff, Alabama received a threat, according to a post by Cedar Bluff School officials.  Schools in Fort Payne, Alabama received threats last Friday.

The FBI and the GBI say that they are dealing with multiple “hoax” threats in the wake of the shooting incident in Barrow County last week.
