The Chattooga County Registrars Office says that they have received 243 voter challenges under the Georgia code that allows any voter in the state to challenge the eligibility of voters that are registered in a particular county. 

The code states that the county registrars office has ten days within receipt of the challenge to notify voters.  The Registrars Office told WZQZ News on Monday that they are calling a meeting to discuss the high number of challenges.  In an email to WZQZ the Registrars Office stated, “We wanted to meet before that deadline to discuss the challenge before we send notices to the voters who have been challenged. We will not be voting whether to uphold or reject any challenges at this meeting, but we are going to decide if any of the challenges are invalid based on the information provided from the challenger and preliminary research conducted by our office”.

The board is also discussing what actions voters will need to take if the challenge against them is not invalidated and what steps our office needs to take in preparing for the election with having these challenged voters. Hearings for the individual voters will take place at a later date and all affected voters will receive a letter with information about their hearing date, time, and location.

The Registrars Office also confirmed to WZQZ that all 243 voter challenges in the county came from one Chattooga County voter.
