As property tax notices are going out in the mail, Chattooga County Tax Commissioner is reminding property owners that if you have an escrow account set up to automatically handle your property taxes and insurance, you will still receive a physical copy of your tax bill in the mail as usual.

Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that there are also homeowners whose last tax bill is still in appeals. There is currently an ongoing appeal process for $460,788 in assessed property values for the 2024 tax year. For those parcels under appeal, homeowners will receive a temporary tax bill calculated at 85% of the original assessment. Once the appeals process is complete and the final property values are determined, an “adjusted” tax bill will be sent out to reflect the accurate amount owed.

For homeowners who had previously made pre-payments towards their 2024 taxes, such as through a “layaway” plan, those amounts have already been applied and credited. Your new tax bill will simply show the remaining balance due, or potentially a $0.00 amount if the pre-payments covered the full obligation.

Regardless, all 2024 property tax bills are due in full by the December 3, 2024 deadline, so be sure to budget accordingly and make timely payments to avoid any penalties or late fees.
