With the potential for upcoming bad weather, the Summerville Police Department wants to remind drivers that during power outages that some or all traffic lights in Summerville may be out due to the loss of power. As a reminder, we want go over what drivers are supposed to do when they encounter a non-working traffic light- When a traffic light is out, Georgia law states that the intersection should be treated as a 4-way stop. This applies to all types of roadways, from main state highways to the smaller city streets that may intersect them. Everyone traveling in every direction should come to a complete stop. The Georgia Driver’s Manual describes to all new drivers that “…if a traffic signal is not functioning at all at an intersection, all drivers must treat the intersection as if a stop sign is posted for all directions.”
