Local insurance agent Butch Eleam talked with WZQZ News on Thursday morning about the impending tropical storm that will impact Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia over the next 48 hours. Eleam told WZQZ that there are some tips for homeowners to remember should damage happen.
Eleam said, “Based experience from past storms such as the Blizzard and Hurricane Opal here are some things to consider if you have some type of damage from the coming storm”:
-Take photos of any damage.
-Take whatever steps you can to prevent any further damage.
-If you still have power and have serious damage be aware that the damage could cause an electrical short and possible fire.
-If you are not able to report the claim immediately to your company contact your agent as soon as possible, or call them first.
Eleam added, “These are general observations based on 47 years of experience and your insurance company could be different. Refer to your policy for any specific instructions or contact your agent as soon as possible”.
