October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign aimed at increasing knowledge and understanding of this devastating disease that affects millions of women worldwide. During this time, organizations, healthcare providers, and communities come together to shine a spotlight on breast cancer, its risk factors, early detection methods, and the importance of regular screenings.  AtriumHealth Floyd says that mammograms are key to fighting breast cancer.

The Breast Center at Atrium Health Floyd has a unique “Know in 24” promise that ensures same-day or next-day results for mammograms, with quick access to further testing if needed. The center offers a wide range of diagnostic services including clinical breast exams, mammograms, GeniusTM 3D Mammography, genetic testing and counseling, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. The Mobile Mammography Coach, launched in 2008, brings mammography technology to rural Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama, providing state-of-the-art digital mammograms in a comfortable and private environment.

A second mobile unit will soon be placed at Atrium Health Floyd’s emergency department in Chattooga County, improving access for underserved women in rural areas. This initiative aims to ensure that all women have convenient access to essential breast health services.
