Georgia’s gas tax suspension, initiated on Thursday, has begun to show positive effects on fuel prices across the state, with rates gradually declining by Friday.  Yesterday, Georgia’s average was down to $2.83 per gallon.  In our area, gas prices were averaging $2.73 in Chattooga County.

Signed into action by Governor Brian Kemp, the suspension is part of a broader strategy to support storm recovery efforts throughout Georgia. According to state data, the suspension is expected to save drivers an average of 32 cents per gallon, providing much-needed relief as residents cope with the aftermath of recent storms.

The tax suspension will remain in effect for the duration of Georgia’s state of emergency, allowing motorists to benefit from reduced fuel costs during this challenging time. Interestingly, even prior to the suspension, gas prices in Georgia had been trending downward and were consistently lower than the national average.

Yesterday’s average price for a gallon of gas in Georgia of $2.83 is significantly below the national average of $3.18.
