The ports of Savannah and Brunswick have reopened following a tentative agreement between striking dockworkers and the U. S. Maritime Alliance. The agreement, reached after a three-day strike, includes a 62% raise over six years for dock workers, a significant increase from the initial offer of 50%. President Biden applauded the agreement, commending both the ILA dockworkers and the U. S. Maritime Alliance for their efforts. The Port of Savannah, the second-busiest on the East Coast, and the Port of Brunswick, the nation’s second-busiest for vehicle cargo, are known for their world-class service. The reopening comes after a challenging period for the Georgia ports, which were impacted by Hurricane Helene before the strike began. The agreement has suspended the strike until Jan. 15 to allow for further negotiations towards a permanent resolution.
