Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says his office will be gathering supplies to take to Hurricane Helene victims in North Carolina today and tomorrow.  The sheriff says that the supplies will be delivered to Rutherford County, an area devastated by the hurricane.

The smaller communities throughout the mountains of North Carolina were devastated after Helene dropped more than 20 inches of rain in some areas on Friday, September 27th, causing massive amounts of flooding as the many rivers in the area burst from their banks, sweeping away cars and whole buildings, along with people.  Rutherford County was one of the hardest hit areas with the Village of Chimney Rock being almost completely destroyed by winds and flooding.

The sheriff says that the supplies will be packed and loaded on Wednesday of this week and delivery of the needed supplies will take place on Thursday.  The sheriff has been in contact with emergency management and law enforcement officials in Rutherford County and they say these are the items most needed:
