In a significant announcement on Thursday, Chattooga County Schools Superintendent Michelle Helie revealed that Chattooga High School has achieved an outstanding graduation rate of 95.24% for the class of 2024. This accomplishment places the district among only 44 others statewide to surpass the 95% graduation threshold.
Superintendent Helie expressed her pride in the achievement, stating, “We would like to congratulate the 2024 seniors at Chattooga High for being one of 44 districts statewide to achieve a graduation rate above 95%. The efforts of these students, their families, all the faculty and staff districtwide, and our community led to this success. We are incredibly proud of these students’ discipline, diligence, and hard work.” The announcement comes on the heels of Georgia’s broader educational success, as the state recorded an all-time high graduation rate of 85.4% for high school seniors in 2024.
This marks a notable increase from 84.4% in the previous year and reflects the state’s commitment to improving educational outcomes since the adjusted cohort calculation was introduced in 2011. In total, 115 school districts across Georgia recorded graduation rates at or above 90%, with 44 districts achieving rates of 95% or more. Since 2011, the statewide graduation rate has surged by 18 percentage points, showcasing the effectiveness of educational initiatives and support systems in place.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods congratulated the class of 2024 on their remarkable achievement, acknowledging the unique challenges they faced during their school years. “These students faced great challenges throughout their school careers – they were in middle school when the pandemic hit in 2020. We have worked to provide the resources and supports needed to ensure they could still succeed and thrive, and we continue to see results showing that the efforts of Georgia’s educators, families, and all those who have taken the time to invest in students are paying off,” Woods stated.
