The Washington family has realized their dream by officially receiving the keys to their new home after a nearly two-year journey with Habitat for Humanity Coosa Valley. The Coosa Valley Chapter serves Floyd, Polk and Chattooga Counties.

Friends, family, and board members gathered to celebrate this milestone in Aragon’s Mill Village, marking the organization’s 60th project and its commitment to helping communities in need. Simone Washington, the family matriarch, played a vital role in the building process, determined to see it through quickly. During the ceremony, she expressed gratitude for overcoming obstacles together and creating a spiritual sanctuary for her loved ones.

In addition to the keys to their new home, the Washingtons received donations of food and household essentials from local organizations. This new chapter represents an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty in Polk County, providing hope for a brighter future.

Habitat for Humanity – Coosa Valley continues to support families through programs promoting homeownership, requiring families to contribute “sweat equity”. Additionally, services like “A Brush With Kindness” and the ReStore help provide necessary repairs and materials at discounted prices. As the Washington family embarks on this journey, they carry the goodwill of a supportive community that believes in the transformative power of owning a home.
